A TRIP DOWN MEMORY LANE: 40 YEARS OF FARM-GROWN SKINNOVATION
A HISTORY OF INNOVATION AND MILESTONES 1985-1990 | THE BEGGINING OF A DREAM Jurlique was born in 1985 when Dr Jurgen and Ulrike Klein set out to create pure, natural skincare inspired by the healing power of nature. They found the perfect home for their vision in the unspoiled Adelaide Hills, where they established their first biodynamic* herb farm. Their philosophy, built on three core principles—purity, integrity, and care—has shaped the brand we know today. By 1987, Jurlique’s dedication to farm-grown botanicals led to the opening of a purpose-built facility in Mount Barker, producing herbal skincare and therapeutic oils. It was the beginning of a skincare revolution powered by nature. 1991-2000 | ICONIC PRODUCTS, GLOBAL GROWTH & OLYMPIC PARTNERSHIPS The 1990s saw Jurlique take bold steps forward. We opened our first concept stores in Adelaide and Melbourne in 1991. And just two years later, we launched our now iconic Rosewater Balancing Mist and Herbal Recovery Serum, loved by skincare enthusiasts around the world. Our global reach expanded with flagship stores in Singapore and Japan, while wellness spas and treatments became central to our identity. In 1995, Jurlique was commissioned to create the Blue Cypress Oil for the Olympics. We were also named the official wellness partner for the Atlanta Olympics in 1996 and the Sydney Olympics in 2000, providing over 2,500 rejuvenating treatments to over 10000 athletes from 199 nations—a milestone that solidified our international presence. 2001-2010 | SUSTAINABILITY & PRODUCT INNOVATION To support growing global demand, in 2005, we relocated to a 105-acre farm in Mylor, reaffirming our commitment to biodynamic* farming. Our efforts earned NASAA organic certification in 2006, highlighting our dedication to sustainable and chemical-free farming practices. By 2010, we celebrated our 25th anniversary with limited-edition rose products, paying homage to the botanical heritage that shaped our brand. 2011-2020 | GIVING BACK TO THE LAND & COMMUNITY In 2012, we launched our Tree Planting Day, planting over 15,000 native trees to improve local ecosystems and provide natural protection for our farm. This initiative reinforced our mission to give back to the land more than we take from it. In 2015, we released the Precious Rose Hand Cream, featuring Rosa gallica extract, to celebrate our 30th anniversary. Innovation continued with the launch of Activating Water Essence+ and Rare Rose Face Oil, expanding our portfolio of botanical-rich hydration products. In 2020, we contributed to South Australia’s bushfire recovery, donating 3,000 tree seedlings to restore affected areas. And, during the COVID-19 pandemic, Jurlique supported frontline workers by donating over 43,000 products worldwide—an expression of our care and gratitude. 2021-PRESENT | MILESTONES & CELEBRATIONS In 2023, we relaunched our Aromatherapy range, pairing sustainable packaging with botanical-rich formulations. A year later, we revitalised the Herbal Recovery range and introduced Calendula Face Oil, continuing our journey of innovation in natural-based skincare. In 2024, we reached one of our proudest milestones by becoming B Corp certified, meeting the highest standards of social and environmental performance, transparency and accountability. This year, we marked our anniversary with the introduction of the Intense Rose—a stunning new bloom cultivated on our biodynamic farm*. George’s collaboration with Jurlique began in 2015 when he bred the iconic Jurlique Rose, the hero of our Rare Rose Range. His final masterpiece, the Intense Rose, celebrates his legacy. Here are some creative tips and tricks to help let your imagination bloom. DIY PROJECTS Mums and mother figures know just how to turn everyday activities into memorable experiences. Pressing flowers is a popular craft that combines nature and creativity. Not only is it a wonderful way to preserve the beauty of a blooming garden, but it also makes for a delightful bonding activity with loved ones. Collect a variety of flowers, place them between sheets of paper, and press them under a heavy book for a few weeks. Once the flowers are dried and pressed, they can be used to create beautiful artwork, greeting cards, or even framed pieces that capture the essence of the season. UNIQUE ROUTINES Establishing routines that foster connection and creativity can make everyday life feel more special. My inspiration came from a few different bunches of flowers that Mum and I had exchanged over the last few Mother's Days and birthdays," she explains. "My mum was once a florist, so flowers have always been her number one present for giving and receiving! Each bouquet holds a special memory, and I wanted to capture the essence of those moments in my artwork." JOURNEY TO THE JAR: THE STORY OF OUR ROSE
You might call the Rose “queen of the botanicals”, such is its popularity and regard. Our particular matriarch is the species Rosa gallica. Nine varieties of Rosa gallica grow on our organic farm in the Adelaide hills of South Australia, their blooms spanning a spectrum of shades, but their properties and intoxicating scent identical. This is the story of the queen of botanicals and her journey from first planting to taking centre stage in our nourishing skin care. Step 1 | South Australian provenance Adelaide is the Rose capital of Australia, thanks in large part to its climate – hot in summer and with plenty of rain throughout winter – which is ideal for growing Roses. Nutrient-rich soil and pure, unpolluted air are some of the most important qualities of our farm and to capitalise on this pristine environment, we follow organic growing methods, keeping the farm free from synthetic fertilisers, pesticides and insecticides. Step 2 | Plant partners Planting is meticulously planned so that all our botanicals can work symbiotically to protect each other from harm. Our Roses are planted beside Yarrow, which nourishes and protects them from predatory insects. Step 3 | Hand-picking petals Harvesting begins in November each year, and our Roses are gently picked by hand when at their peak. Between November and February, we harvest 30 to 60 kilograms of Rose petals each week. Some weeks, when we’ve had particularly good weather, the Roses grow extra quickly and we can harvest up to 100 kilograms of petals per week. Step 4 | Next comes drying The Rose petals are laid flat on large racks and placed in our heated drying cupboards for five to six days. The dried petals can be stored for up to three years without diminishing their active ingredients. Rose is a key ingredient in many of our products, so it’s important that we always have a continuous supply. Step 5 | Extracting the nutrients To unlock the nutrients within the Rose, each petal goes through our exclusive extraction process. This proprietary process captures the pure, potent and active essential nutrients and minerals from the plants. This precious Rose extract is then transported to our nearby Natural Beauty Plant, which was developed in line with our culture of sustainability. Step 6 | The products you love Here at the Natural Beauty Plant, the Rosa gallica extract becomes the hero ingredient in many of our most loved products, including our bestselling Rare Rose Lotion and Rose Hand Cream. As well as imparting its divine scent, this botanical beauty helps hydrate dry skin, leaving it feeling soft and supple.

This Mother’s Day, Jurlique partnered with sustainable artist Tara Kelly to create the design of our Mother’s Day gift sets. The Queensland-based artist, and mum of two, is also the founder of Hello Petals, the leading supplier of plantable cards in Australia and New Zealand. Her vibrant artwork “Moon Flower” is a celebration of Mother Nature, with a whimsical style and eye-catching colours that evoke a sense of sweet sentiment, perfect for the joyful celebration of Mother’s Day. We caught up with Tara to learn more about her connection to nature, the inspiration behind her work and her passion for the environment. How important is Mother Nature in your life? Fresh air and sunshine are both so grounding and rejuvenating. Even just 10 minutes out in the sunshine with a cup of tea is so therapeutic. Spending time in nature is essential for my well-being. I have always had a strong desire to do better when it comes to my lifestyle choices and how they affect our environment. This is our home and there’s ‘no planet b’. Making small changes where possible to protect Mother Nature is very important to me and is something I am guiding our children to do also. How do you incorporate nature into your art? It’s no secret that I love flowers. As Claude Monet says “I must have flowers, always and always.” There is so much beauty to see in flowers; in their intricate anatomical arrangements. Each so unique and fascinating in its own way. I feel 100% true to myself and my work when I am painting flowers. I often see an arrangement or wildflowers on the side of the road and feel inspired to recreate its beauty. Is there a mother figure in your life who inspires your work? If there is ever a Mother figure to inspire me it would always be my Mum. She is such an inspiration in countless ways and I consider myself to be incredibly blessed to have her in my life. Growing up I remember her as being artistic. I remember seeing her paints in the craft cupboard and a number of folk art pieces she had painted around our home. My artistic side is definitely a trait passed down from my Mum. She has been such a big help in the studio packing lots of wonderful Hello Petal orders and chasing my very busy 1-year-old around. What was your creative process behind the artwork? Moon flower was one of the first works I created digitally. It was an exploration of colour and textures that paved the way for many of Hello Petal’s popular designs. It was created without intention, as some of the best pieces are. Jurlique and I share the same ethics when it comes to nature. To work with a like minded company who are passionate about what our environment has to offer, as well as how important it is to give back, is an exceptional opportunity I couldn’t pass up. I think we make a great fit. Is there any Jurlique product you can’t live without? I love the activating water essence, it is so hydrating and refreshing and prepares my skin for following products. I also love the hand cream trio. I don’t think I could choose just one. All three scents smell amazing and are so nourishing without feeling oily. I have one in my hand bag and a couple stashed around the house and studio for easy access.
