GIVE YOUR SKIN A FACIAL WORKOUT
Like keeping our bodies active, a facial workout is equally important. Like our bodies, the skin benefits from regular care and attention to combat the signs of ageing and environmental stressors. At Jurlique, we believe a holistic approach to beauty that nurtures the skin and overall wellbeing is essential. A FACIAL WORKOUT TO ENERGISE, REVITALISE & REAWAKEN STRESSED SKIN One effective facial workout is using our Mini Cryo Tool with the Herbal Recovery Bi-Phase Serum. Here’s how to get started: 1. Begin with clean skin: Gently cleanse the skin then apply your Activating Water Essence+. This ensures your skin is free of makeup and impurities, ready to absorb the serum's nourishing benefits. While waiting for the essence to absorb, start cooling the Mini Cryo Tool in a bowl of iced water to chill it. 2. Apply the Herbal Recovery Bi-Phase Serum: Shake the serum to mix the oil and water phases, then warm 4-5 drops in your palms. Press and smooth the serum onto your face, neck, and décolletage, allowing it to absorb fully. As the serum melts into your skin, it gets to work straightaway —skin appears smooth in just 30 minutes* after applying. 3. Cool down with the Cryo Tool: Once the Cryo Tool is chilled, wipe off any excess water. Then, start at the jawline and work your way upwards and outwards. This technique not only feels refreshing but aids in helping reduce puffiness. 4. Focus on key areas: Focus on areas that show the first signs of ageing, such as around the eyes and forehead. The Cryo Tool's cooling effect, combined with our exclusive Jurlique Recovery Blend in the Herbal Recovery Bi-Phase Serum, will leave your skin feeling revitalised, rejuvenated and refreshed. Like any workout, the key to seeing results is consistency. Regularly applying the Herbal Recovery Bi-Phase Serum increases adenosine triphosphate (ATP) production by 19%^, promoting a healthy-looking complexion everyday. GOING BEYOND SKINCARE TO HELP CARE FOR YOUR SKIN Now that you’ve given your skin a facial workout, allow the rest of your body to enjoy the benefits of making healthier decisions. Below are extra tips on keeping your body and skin in peak condition: • Establish a gym schedule: Aim for at least 30-60 minutes of moderate aerobic activity everyday. This could include brisk walking, cycling, or swimming. Regular exercise promotes healthy circulation, which is vital for skin vitality. • Join a yoga or Pilates class: These low-impact workouts improve flexibility and strength while reducing stress. Both enhance blood flow to the skin and help maintain a youthful glow. • Stay hydrated: Drinking plenty of water is essential for overall health and skin hydration. Aim for at least eight glasses of water a day to keep your skin plump and radiant. • Get quality sleep: A good night's sleep is always beneficial for your overall health. Aim for 7-9 hours of restful sleep each night to allow your skin to repair and rejuvenate. • Manage stress: Chronic stress can take a toll on your skin. Consider activities like meditation, deep breathing exercises, or hobbies that bring you joy to keep stress at bay. * 76% of 55 subjects said skin appears smooth 30 minutes after a single application. ^In vitro study, Jurlique Recovery Blend in Herbal Recovery Serum and Herbal Recovery Cream, POLA Chemical Industries Inc

In the whirlwind of the daily hustle, finding the time to prioritise our wellness journey can sometimes feel challenging. But by introducing a few small changes and embracing a perfectly imperfect wellness routine, we can unlock the gateway to a happier, healthier version of ourselves. Let's dive into some practical tips and tricks to kickstart your realistic (and achievable!) wellness journey. FOOD When our schedules fill up, what we eat can sometimes take a backseat, but fuelling your body with nourishing food doesn't have to be a challenge. Often, a little preparation can go a long way. Planning ahead of time and cooking meals that can feed you over multiple days can save time and keep you on track with your health goals. Think batches of overnight oats, nutritious soups and delicious curries. Focus on incorporating whole, nutrient-dense foods into your meals and opt for colourful vegetables, lean proteins, and complex carbohydrates. EXERCISE Squeezing in a rigorous workout may seem daunting, especially with a packed schedule. Keep it simple and kickstart your exercise routine by focusing on movement that brings you joy, whether it's a brisk walk around the neighbourhood, an at-home workout, a dance class, or a short yoga session. Consistency is key, so start small and gradually build up. The goal is not perfection but the integration of movement into your daily routine. Fitness apps are a great way to make exercise more fun and keep you on track. ENERGY BOOSTERS While coffee is a staple for many, consider swapping it out for tasty matcha. This green tea alternative provides a slower release of caffeine, avoiding the highs and lows associated with coffee. The sustained energy boost from matcha allows for increased focus without the jitters. It's a small but impactful change that can positively influence your daily productivity and mood. Nothing impacts our energy levels more than sleep, so try your best to establish a relaxing bedtime routine, limit screen time before sleep, and create a cosy sleep environment. Even in the midst of the daily grind, find pockets of time for deep breaths or a quick 5-minute meditation. HYDRATION Water is a multitasker, aiding digestion, nutrient absorption, and transporting essential elements throughout the body. It is also great for our skin! Keep those hydration levels high by purchasing a refillable water bottle and carrying it around like it's your sidekick. Natural, sugar-free electrolyte powders can be mixed with water, providing hydration and essential minerals. And for those looking to cut down on sodas, get your fizzy fix by adding a squeeze of lime to soda water for a refreshing drink. SKINCARE Skincare is a form of self-care and an important addition to any wellness routine, but finding the time to give your skin a bit of self-care can always be a challenge! If you are short on time, use 8 drops of Activating Water Essence+ and 2 drops of your favourite Jurlique Face Oil for a quick and easy ritual that will leave your skin softened, refreshed and hydrated. Embarking on a wellness journey doesn't have to be overwhelming. By incorporating these simple tips into your daily routine, you can kickstart a realistic and sustainable daily ritual that aligns with your busy lifestyle. Remember, it's about progress, not perfection.

Read more5 MINUTES WITH ARTIST, TARA KELLY
This Mother’s Day, Jurlique partnered with sustainable artist Tara Kelly to create the design of our Mother’s Day gift sets. The Queensland-based artist, and mum of two, is also the founder of Hello Petals, the leading supplier of plantable cards in Australia and New Zealand. Her vibrant artwork “Moon Flower” is a celebration of Mother Nature, with a whimsical style and eye-catching colours that evoke a sense of sweet sentiment, perfect for the joyful celebration of Mother’s Day. We caught up with Tara to learn more about her connection to nature, the inspiration behind her work and her passion for the environment. How important is Mother Nature in your life? Fresh air and sunshine are both so grounding and rejuvenating. Even just 10 minutes out in the sunshine with a cup of tea is so therapeutic. Spending time in nature is essential for my well-being. I have always had a strong desire to do better when it comes to my lifestyle choices and how they affect our environment. This is our home and there’s ‘no planet b’. Making small changes where possible to protect Mother Nature is very important to me and is something I am guiding our children to do also. How do you incorporate nature into your art? It’s no secret that I love flowers. As Claude Monet says “I must have flowers, always and always.” There is so much beauty to see in flowers; in their intricate anatomical arrangements. Each so unique and fascinating in its own way. I feel 100% true to myself and my work when I am painting flowers. I often see an arrangement or wildflowers on the side of the road and feel inspired to recreate its beauty. Is there a mother figure in your life who inspires your work? If there is ever a Mother figure to inspire me it would always be my Mum. She is such an inspiration in countless ways and I consider myself to be incredibly blessed to have her in my life. Growing up I remember her as being artistic. I remember seeing her paints in the craft cupboard and a number of folk art pieces she had painted around our home. My artistic side is definitely a trait passed down from my Mum. She has been such a big help in the studio packing lots of wonderful Hello Petal orders and chasing my very busy 1-year-old around. What was your creative process behind the artwork? Moon flower was one of the first works I created digitally. It was an exploration of colour and textures that paved the way for many of Hello Petal’s popular designs. It was created without intention, as some of the best pieces are. It was really an experimentation; to find my digital style, to get to know how the brushes flowed and carried each stroke. What made you want to partner with Jurlique? Jurlique and I share the same ethics when it comes to nature. To work with a like minded company who are passionate about what our environment has to offer, as well as how important it is to give back, is an exceptional opportunity I couldn’t pass up. I think we make a great fit. Is there any Jurlique product you can’t live without? I love the activating water essence, it is so hydrating and refreshing and prepares my skin for following products. I also love the hand cream trio. I don’t think I could choose just one. All three scents smell amazing and are so nourishing without feeling oily. I have one in my hand bag and a couple stashed around the house and studio for easy access.

Skin care is self-care and facial yoga is the important daily ritual your routine needs. Whether you start the day improving lymph flow or ease tension after a long, screen-filled day, facial exercises can strengthen muscles, relax lines and better connect to ourselves. Not only a nourishing self-care ritual, facial massage and facial yoga may have the potential to stimulate collagen production, the key to younger and healthier looking skin. FACE YOGA BENEFITS Facial yoga works to stimulate the muscles, skin, and lymphatic system. By softening and relaxing your face muscles, face yoga benefits can be felt and seen inside and out1. Alleviating feelings of tension, stress, and worry, reducing wrinkles and puffiness, and lifting sagging skin. Responsible for skin firmness and skin elasticity, collagen is the protein that holds our complexion in high regard. But in menopause, skin quickly loses collagen1. As estrogen drops, so too does skin’s collagen production2. COLLAGEN AND THE SKIN Collagen and elastin are the scaffolding in skin3 that keeps it youthful, taut and voluminous. While collagen does decrease gradually with age, the rate is more dramatic in the first five years of menopause4. Continuing to decline for the next 20 years, skin begins to lose its firmness, sag, with wrinkles and jowls more prominent2. MENOPAUSE AND THE SKIN Skin collagen is directly influenced by estrogen loss with approximately 30% of skin collagen lost in the first 5 years after menopause5. As a result of these hormonal changes, skin loses strength and elasticity1. Changes may be seen in the under-eye area; skin may feel thinner and pores may largen. HOW TO INCREASE COLLAGEN NATURALLY As water is a large percentage of collagen’s weight3, it’s important to stay well hydrated6. Eating a diet rich in a variety of proteins and vitamin C, an essential co-factor in collagen production, may support your body’s own collagen production7, 8. And using a daily SPF can also protect the breakdown of existing collagen in your skin9. FACIAL MASSAGE TO BOOST COLLAGEN A nightly facial massage ritual at home. Begin with a neck and shoulder massage to relieve sore muscles. Warm 1-2 pumps of your favourite serum or oil between fingertips, then gently press and smooth evenly onto face, neck and décolletage. Use a warm rose quartz crystal massage roller to help restore firmness to your skin. Follow with a cool jade massage roller to relieve hot flushes and leave skin in a state of calm. Superfoods: not just a buzzword conjuring up images of Gwyneth Paltrow. They have a high nutritional density, which means they provide more nutrients per gram than conventional foods, and they typically contain high amounts of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. We know we should be eating them for various health benefits, but did you know that incorporating these nutrient-dense foods into your diet can give you visible results? Yup, superfoods can contain omega-3 fatty acids, omega-9 fatty acids, vitamins A, C, E, B and D, as well as zinc and glutamine, which all help to look after your hair, skin and nails. What Is the Best Diet for Skin and Hair? We asked the team at healthy, plant-based meal delivery service Soulara for a bit of expertise, and they gave us their top 10 superfoods to start incorporating into your diet. What Foods Are Good For Hair, Skin, and Nails? If you're curious about what helps hair, skin and nails grow, below are tasty foods that can give you that healthy boost you're looking for: CHIA SEEDS Chia seeds are a great source of omega-3 fatty acids, which reduce inflammation and protect the heart and brain from chronic disease. Sprinkle seeds onto soup or add to smoothies for an easy, every day way to incorporate them into your daily diet. KALE Vitamin A is good for hair growth – it helps the glands to produce sebum, which moisturises the scalp and keeps your hair looking healthy. Kale is our go-to superfood for vitamin A – add a handful to salads, lentil dal or risotto. ALMONDS Almonds are rich in vitamin E, an antioxidant that supports collagen production and provides anti-inflammatory benefits for the body. Keep a bag on your desk at work to snack on throughout the day (a healthy alternative to the chocolate drawer). CARROTS Packed with vitamin A and vitamin C, carrots support your hair, skin and nails. Try roasting them and topping with chia and pumpkin seeds to use as a side dish. SWEET POTATOES Like carrots, sweet potatoes are great sources of vitamins A and C. They’re delicious baked and loaded with roasted veg or cut into wedges and oven-baked. PUMPKIN SEEDS Rich in iron, magnesium, potassium, biotin and omega-3 fatty acids…pumpkin seeds certainly pack a punch for such a small food, plus biotin is great for improving hair and nail growth. Use them to sprinkle on salads, soups, or in oats. For more superfood recipe ideas, head to Soulara’s website. What fruits are good for skin and hair? Fruits good for hair and skin include: AVOCADOS Not just a millennial favourite, avocados are rich in omega-9 fatty acids for keeping the top layer of your skin hydrated. They’re also a good source of vitamin E, making it a great food for healthy hair. Aside from the usual avo on toast, add slices to salad or use to create fresh guacamole. BLUEBERRIES Blueberries are high in vitamin A which helps to clear up acne as well as moderate oil levels in skin. Mix a handful into oats and a plant-based milk and leave overnight for a delicious way to perk up your morning oats. GOJI BERRIES An all-rounder, goji berries contain iron, zinc and copper which are all great for radiant skin, hair and nails. Try sprinkling onto your morning oats. LEMONS High levels of vitamin C in lemons work to neutralise free radicals and help the body in producing collagen for firmer-looking skin. Start your day with a slice of lemon in hot water, or squeeze lemon juice onto your avocado. What are the best vitamins for hair and nail growth? We all know vitamin C is the MVP for skincare, but have you ever wondered what vitamins are best for hair and nails? Biotin, aka vitamin B7, is touted as a superfood for hair and nails. It's responsible for keratin production, the building block of your hair and nails. You can find biotin in foods like organ meats, eggs, nuts, seeds, fish and sweet potatoes. If you're dealing with brittle nails or split ends, selenium (a mineral, not a vitamin) is also a key player in keratin production. Selenium is present in Brazil nuts, seafood, meat, poultry and organ meats. Avocado is another great option, as it is rich in vitamins A, C and E, all of which support collagen formation and overall skin health. If you prefer plant-based alternatives, chia seeds are a fantastic source of omega-3s, and blueberries, which are high in vitamin A and antioxidants, are good for hair and nails. At Jurlique, caring for our Earth and giving back to our land more than we take from it is at the heart of what we do. For us, this is working to the cycles of nature at our biodynamic* farm and ongoing efforts like our tree-planting initiatives. Right now, we are preparing to grow 2,000 seedlings that we will help rejuvenate the Cudlee Creek area after the devastating bushfires of 2019/2020 burnt through 23,000 hectares. "We cannot turn back time, but we can grow trees, rewild our gardens, and help restore our ecosystems." BIODIVERSITY AND NATURAL WATERWAYS Understanding how ecosystems provide crucial services such as pollination, seed dispersal, climate regulation, and water purification is all the more reason to ensure we protect our land and natural waterways. Biodiversity importantly boosts ecosystems where a healthy ecosystem may better withstand and recover from a variety of disasters. And in the case of bushfires, biodiversity is not only under threat but a critical part of response, recovery and regeneration. Bushland regeneration is key. In particular, watercourses in the fire scar are vital in protecting native fish that take refuge in permanent water pools over summer. Aside from water, one of the most important things native fish require is layers of vegetation growing alongside and in watercourses and permanent water pools – home to their food source, insects. Consequently, biodiversity efforts focus on providing a range of sedge and rush species for regeneration with shade from trees also important to keep water cool in summer and minimise evaporation. BUSHFIRES AND COMMUNITY From September 2019 to March 2020, devastating bushfires swept through Australia. Land, wildlife, homes and livelihoods were destroyed with communities left heartbroken. Only 38km from our Jurlique Farm, Cudlee Creek, in the Adelaide Hills, was declared an emergency disaster area with fires burning through 23,000 hectares and destroying hundreds of homes and buildings. Ever since, we vowed to nurture tree seedlings on our Jurlique Farm for planting at Cudlee Creek – helping to rejuvenate the affected area. SEEDINGS IN THE SPOTLIGHT This year, we’re growing seedlings for Trees for Life and Landscape SA’s winter 2022 plant giveaway for properties affected by the Cudlee Creek fire. Trees for Life, a South Australia-based not for profit organisation work to restore and protect South Australian landscapes. They have researched and collected seeds from the most badly affected plants, enabling us to nurture seedlings from the tree species that have been most impacted by the fires. Our Jurlique farm is currently preparing to grow 2,000 seedlings of River Red Gum, Tassel Sedge and Common Rush species as part of a special planting day. In February 2022, our dedicated Jurlique farm staff will take to planting the various seed species firmly into their recycled pots. And while in previous years we’ve been able to share the day with the surrounding community, we’re determined to continue our bush regeneration efforts even during a pandemic. Our Jurlique farm will be taking precious care of our seedlings over the coming months when they’ll finally be returned back to nature, to the community and ecosystems that once lost so much. But we’re not alone in restoring ecosystems. Join with friends, family, and community in planting trees, hosting local clean-ups, starting composting and making conscious choices that support the environment and honour our ecosystems. *Certified biodynamic by the National Association for Sustainable Agriculture, Australia.
