Read moreWAYS TO REDUCE YOUR WATER USAGE
Water, an essential to human life. We’ve been hydrating ourselves, cleansing our bodies, watering our plants with it since the beginning of time. Despite its seeming abundance, water supply isn’t an infinite resource. If not managed properly, water shortage is something that may become the norm. The immediate effect of reducing water usage is saving money on water and energy bills. But, when we conserve water, we’re not only reaping individual benefits, the Earth will thank us for it too. Water conservation helps prevent greenhouse gas emissions produced by energy used to clean and distribute water, decreases wastewater treatments at sewerage plants and helps to maintain our water supplies during drought seasons.Water helps keep our bodies healthy and clean, nourishes fruits and vegetables and protects our ecosystem and wildlife. As our global population grows and the Earth becomes drier and warmer, committing to saving water is vital. At Jurlique, in line with our commitment to sustainability, we've reduced our water usage by 25% since 2015 by using rain and recycled water. Conserving water is one part of staying true to our mission, and we encourage you to make it a priority too.Ways to reduce water usageShorter showersYou would be surprised how much water we use daily. A typical shower uses approximately 19 litres per minute! Cutting down your showers from 10 to 5 five minutes will save about 95 litres a day. It’s easy to drift off to la-la land in the shower, so an easy way to stick to a shorter shower is by using a timer, that way you’ll stay focused and be in and out of the shower quicker. The recommended shower time is four minutes or less, so try and aim for that to reduce water usage at home.Flush toilets lessDid you know that the average person flushes the toilet about five times day? One flush of water can use up to 12 litres of water. By using the half flush button when appropriate to do so you can save about 18 litres a day. All the incremental choices really add up! Another way to reduce your toilet flushes is to stop using it to dispose of tissues – throw them in the bin instead.Turn the tap off in the bathroomReduce your water footprint by not leaving the water running when you’re brushing your teeth or cleansing your skin. A simple way to reduce the time you spend cleansing is by using a cleansing oil. By using a cleansing oil, you’ll end up using less water because instead of having to rinse your face with running water, all you need to do is wet a face towel once, use the back of the towel when the front is dirty and then pop into your laundry basket. Our Nourishing Cleansing Oil not only nourishes and cleanses the skin but it’s free of any chemicals or parabens that’ll flow down the drain into our water ways and have a negative impact on the environment.Wash a full loadIt actually takes as much energy and water to wash a full load as it does a half load, especially if you’re not using an appropriate amount of water. So, it’s best to wait until your basket is full before washing your dirty laundry. Can’t wait that long? Then make sure you’re not using excess water to wash your clothes. If your washing machine comes with an energy saving setting, use that as well as using cold water to save more energy. Also, opt for biodegradable laundry detergents to reduce the harmful effect on our waterways.Avoid rinsing before using the dishwasherResist the urge to rinse your utensils before popping them into the dishwasher. Instead, scrape your food scraps as best as you can into the bin (a compost bin would be even better). Much like the washing machine, try and only turn the dishwasher on when you have a full load and use an energy saving setting.Consume local seasonal produceBy eating local seasonal fruits and veggies, you’ll indirectly be helping to conserve water. About five barrels of water is used to create one barrel of petrol. If we all make a commitment to eat locally then that’s less outbound miles on farm trucks coming in from different states. Another way to reduce water usage through food is by cutting down on red meat and eating less water-intensive foods like chicken, chickpeas and lentils. To find out more about the sustainable practices on our Jurlique Farm, read our Sustainability Report.

We focus so much on our facial skin care rituals that we often forget to cater to our body skin too. Baby soft skin can be achievable at any age. You most likely have the foundational steps of body skin care, like showering and applying lotion, down pat but let’s take it from the top. Keep reading for our secrets to achieving smooth body skin.BEFORE THE SHOWERHealthy-looking, smooth body skin starts from the inside out. Do a skin check. If it’s looking dry, or even scaly then your skin barrier is probably not getting enough nutrients and moisture. Our skin’s barrier does a lot of protective work for us, so we need show it some love back.Stay hydrated: The human body is made up of about 60-70% of water, so drinking enough of it is essential to keep your body functioning at a better capacity both internally and externally. The same way you feel parched when you’re thirsty is the same way your skin does.Up your wholefood and superfood intake: We say that the best diet for good skin is made up of a rainbow of fruit, veggies and wholefoods. Superfoods contain omega-3 fatty acids and (great for the keeping the top layer of your skin hydrated) vitamins A, C, E, B and D (great not only for your skin, also hair and nails).Get your sleep in: You might be wondering what sleep has to do with body skin, but it’s actually vital in assisting the repairing process of your skin. While you’re sleeping, your body goes into recovery mode, healing all the daytime damage like UV exposure, and pollution.IN THE SHOWERTemperature: Once you get into the shower, resist the urge to have a water temperature ratio of 90% hot and 10% cold. Hot steamy showers feel amazing, but they’re not great for your skin – especially in the winter months. A higher temperature can strip moisture away from your skin’s natural barrier, leaving you with drier skin in the long run. The ideal temperature should be lukewarm, not too hot, not too cold. If you can’t give up a hot shower, try and minimise your time spent under the water and how many of them you have a week.Exfoliate: Exfoliation is a crucial step to getting smooth body skin. Exfoliation helps improve rough skin texture as it buffs away dead skin cells and build up. Even though our body skin is much more resilient compared to our facial skin, it’s still important to avoid using a harsh exfoliant or over-exfoliating. We recommend using our Smoothing Body Exfoliating Gel, and applying it in the shower before washing with shower gel. It contains a perfectly balanced blend of natural exfoliators such as Walnut Shell powder and cellulose beads to polish away dead surface skin cells, revealing radiant smoother looking skin.Sud up: Not all body washes are created equal. Some body washes are filled with nasties that strip your skin leaving you with a tight, dry feeling. Opt for body washes that naturally cleanse and soften your skin. Indulge in our Softening Shower Gel Rose, a gentle soap-free shower gel that helps restore moisture to the skin, smooth and rebalance dryness. Free from soaps, sulphates, parabens, artificial colours and fragrances, your skin will feel squeaky clean but still hydrated.AFTER THE SHOWERLotion: Don’t wait too long after leaving the shower to apply your body lotion, you want your skin to be slightly damp but not wet. By doing this, your skin will absorb the moisturising benefits ofyour body lotion or body butter more readily. Our Body Lotions are nothing short of a nourishing botanical cocktail for your skin. Rich in Avocado Oil, Shea Butter and Beeswax, they help protect your skin from environmental aggressors and also keep it supple, soft and glowing.Body Oil: Seal in all that moisture with a body oil. Body oils are formulated to replenish and nurture the skin. Rich in essential fatty acids, our Rose Body Oil is lightweight, so your skin won’t be left feeling too greasy. Pour a small amount onto the palms of your hands and apply to the skin with smooth massage strokes. Not only does the delicate scent of Rose smell divine, but your skin will be left nourished and ultra-smooth and soft.Unearth a natural remedy for every body. Our aromatic selection of Shower Gels and Body Lotions are enriched with the restorative powers of Nature.
Read moreHOW TO TAKE CARE OF YOUR SKIN IN SUMMER
There’s nothing quite like summer. Days are endless, the sun seems to make everything better and it’s almost a given that you completely switch off and do nothing but enjoy the warmer weather for a few months. But as happy as we are to pack our coats away for the season, summer can wreak havoc on your skin if you don’t look after it properly. UVA/UVB rays are at their peak during the summer months, and the humidity and hot weather can stimulate your sebaceous glands and leave you with clogged pores – not the easy, low-maintenance summer beauty we all have in mind. To make sure you have the best skin possible this summer and discover our glowing skin care tips below. SIX TIPS FOR SUMMER-READY SKIN1. WEAR SUNSCREENBaz Lurhmann was right when he told everyone to ‘wear sunscreen’. Sunscreens act as a daily shield against harmful UV rays which penetrate your skin when exposed to the sun, as well as help prevent your skin from developing fine lines and wrinkles. Avoid sun damaged skin by wearing a broad-spectrum sunscreen daily (even if it’s cloudy) and reapply every two-three hours. 2. APPLY AN ANTIOXIDANT SERUMIf you’re not already using one, apply an antioxidant serum to your morning skin care routine. Look for one that contains vitamins C and E, which help to neutralise free radicals and strengthen and protect the skin. Try our Herbal Recovery Signature Serum and start adding antioxidant-rich foods to your diet, such as tomatoes, capsicum and strawberries. Woman touching face with hands 3. EXFOLIATEThanks to sweat and sunscreen, your pores can get clogged easily during summer, so it’s important to gently exfoliate two-three times a week. Our Daily Exfoliating Cream gently lifts and removes dead surface skin and impurities, leaving it feeling soft, smooth and polished. 4. DOUBLE CLEANSEOn those nights you’re not exfoliating, go for a double cleanse. The first cleanse will remove oil, sweat, sunscreen and make up, while the second cleanse will deep clean your pores. Try our Nourishing Cleansing Oil, it’s a great hydrating cleanser for dry skin, and leaves your skin feeling softer and smoother. 5. SWITCH TO A LIGHTER MOISTURISERA moisturiser is important every time of year but while you may reach for those richer creams in winter to help nourish dry skin, they can feel too heavy come summer. Opt for a lightweight moisturiser instead, like our Herbal Recovery Signature Moisturising Lotion, that absorbs quickly and easily into the skin while still leaving you feeling hydrated and protected. A face mist will help to top up your hydration levels throughout the day too, plus they can be a welcome refresher once the temperatures rise. Try keeping a bottle of our Rosewater Balancing Mist or Lavender Hydrating Mist in your bag for easy use.

Enter aromatherapy, a natural and oft-cited way to help reduce stress. From what essential oils to use to help relieve stress to how to use them, discover our guide to relaxing aromatherapy below. How stress affects skinYou may notice that your skin doesn’t look its best when you’re stressed. Perhaps you’re breaking out more than usual, or pre-existing conditions such as eczema and psoriasis are worse than they have been in a while. This is because stress can cause a chemical response in your body that may make skin more sensitive.Stress can also lead to your body making more hormones like cortisol, which may cause the glands in your skin to produce oil…which could lead to breakouts. On top of that, you might be neglecting your skin care ritual as your mind is on other things. What is aromatherapy?Aromatherapy has been used as a holistic wellbeing tool for years, with even the Ancient Egyptians known for using different scents to alter their mood. Read moreWHY PRESSING IN YOUR SKIN CARE WILL MAKE A BIG DIFFERENCE
When it comes to an effective skin care ritual, having the right products in your line-up is only half of it. The method of application also plays a big part, as it can affect the overall efficacy of your products. Avoiding excessively rubbing your skin and instead pressing in your product, which also makes them more effective and dramatically improves the condition of your skin. What is pressing/patting? Patting in your skin care products is a centuries old Japanese technique – a traditional ritual in which skin care products are gently patted or pressed onto the surface of the skin rather than tugging or rubbing. To use the pressing method simply: Apply a small amount of product to clean finger tips of one hand Gently rub both of your hands together to evenly distribute the product and as well as warm up the product Starting at your nose and working outwards gently press your product into your face. Press the product into your oiliest areas, like your T-Zone, last. Also gently press the product into your neck and décolletage until fully absorbed. Patting vs rubbing in skin care products One of the main benefits of pressing in your skin care products is that it significantly reduces pulling and tugging of skin. Our skin is one of our body’s most delicate organs and without realising it, excessive skin manipulation by rubbing can stretch the skin and break down collagen, in turn leading to advanced signs of ageing like sagging and wrinkles. From the vigorous use of makeup wipes to being heavy handed when applying moisturiser, all of that rubbing adds up. Pressing in your skin care products also allows the products to penetrate deeper without friction. Particularly around the area where rubbing in products and dragging the skin can cause irritation and inflammation. When should you press in your skin care products? Physical exfoliators and cleansers are the only products that should be rubbed into your face using gentle, circular motions: this motion helps activate the product and whisks away debris. For most of your skin care ritual steps you should practice pressing in your products. Misting/Essence: After cleansing your skin, use a toner or essence to restore hydration. Our Activating Water Essence is the essential step for every skin care ritual and is formulated to activate the skin’s ability to retain water and thus maximises the benefits of the products you apply afterwards. “Your skin is like a sponge, anything you put on top of a dry sponge will just sit there”, says Rebecca Nicholls, Jurlique Education Specialist. To enhance absorption, pour a couple of drops into your hand, gently rub your hands together to warm up the product and gently pat onto your face, neck and décolletage. Serum: Serums are a high-performance treatment step and usually packed with all the good stuff that helps improve your complexion. By pressing in your serum instead of rubbing, you’ll ensure that every juicy drop gets absorbed into your skin. Eye Cream: Your eye area is quite delicate so pulling and tugging is already a big no-no. Instead of patting with all of your fingers, use the tips of your ring fingers and gently take your time to pat the product under the eye area in until full absorbed. Moisturiser: When moisturising you can use the same patting technique as you would with your serum and essence step. But as a final technique you can also glide and smooth the moisturiser onto your skin. Moving from the middle of your face outward and using upward gliding motion on your neck and décolletage. Remember to be gentle and avoid any rubbing motion. A circular rubbing motion is mostly our default option when it comes applying skin care products. Even though it feels like it gets the job faster and we’ve been doing it this way since forever, the bottom line is that it’s not that great for our skin. When applying your skin care remember to try and take a mindful moment and really treat it like the luxurious ritual it is. Take your time as your press in your products. Your skin will thank you for it.
Read moreFIVE REASONS TO USE A BODY OIL
The skin on your body deserves just as much care as the skin on your face, but that doesn’t mean it always gets it. If you find yourself skipping the all-important step of post-shower body hydration, then perhaps the ritual of applying a luxurious oil to your limbs could help to make the habit stick. Oils have been used for thousands of years for their beautifying properties, and with good reason. Read on to discover why you should consider incorporating them into your daily ritual.1. BODY OILS ARE EFFECTIVE AT TACKLING DRY SKINFirst and foremost, body oils are amazing at relieving dry, scaly skin caused by changing weather, too-hot showers, and harsh cleansers. A good body oil works to hydrate the skin and lock in moisture. Contrary to what you might expect, oils are absorbed quickly without leaving a greasy residue. But when to use body oil? For best results, apply your chosen oil – we highly recommend our delightfully scented Rose Body Oil – to slightly damp skin straight after your bath or shower.2. THEY COULD POSITIVELY IMPACT YOUR MOOD, AS WELL AS YOUR SKINWhen choosing the best body oil for you, opt for a scent that aligns with your personal needs. Aromatherapy can be a powerful tool in influencing your state of mind. While our Lemon Body Oil is a revitalizing option for getting yourself going in the morning, you may wish to choose something relaxing and soothing like our Lavender Body Oil as you wind down before bedtime.3. BODY OILS ARE AN ECONOMICAL CHOICEA body oil’s versatility makes it an economical addition to your beauty arsenal. As well as slathering oil over your skin, you could add a few drops to your bath; use it to soften cuticles during an at-home mani-pedi; or apply it as a relaxing massage oil. It’s also worth noting that a little goes a long way, so you won’t find yourself having to restock too regularly either.4. THEY CAN HELP TO PROTECT AND REPAIR THE SKINNatural, plant-derived oils – such as Jojoba and Macadamia – are filled with antioxidants, vitamins, and essential fatty acids that can protect the skin against environmental aggressors, whilst also renewing damaged cells and preventing ageing. Certain oils are even thought to help heal scars, fade the appearance of stretch marks, and soothe irritated skin. Deeply nourishing, our Jojoba Carrier Oil can be used alone or blended with your favorite essential oils.5. BODY OILS CAN ENHANCE YOUR EXISTING BEAUTY PRODUCTSMaybe you’re still wondering, is body oil better than lotion? We say neither is better than the other, it’s simply down to your own personal preference. Obviously, the main difference here is texture. If you aren’t quite ready to commit, adding a drop of oil to one of our Body Lotions offers an easy way to introduce it into your regime, delivering richness and extra hydrating properties to the skin.
Read moreWHO IS THE MOST INSPIRING WOMAN IN YOUR LIFE?
To celebrate International Women's Day this year, we asked our Jurlique team to tell us who are the most inspiring women in their lives. Here are just some of our favorite responses. ROSEMARY RAE - GLOBAL LEARNING AND DEVELOPMENT SPECIALIST "The most inspiring woman in my world is my mum Grace. She was one of the first female truck drivers in Australia in the late 60s, early 70s. From her I learnt courage, commitment and resilience." CHERIE HUTCHINSON - FARM PRODUCTION MANAGER "My friends inspire me. I am surrounded by some really strong positive women. We look out for one another, we have a barrel of laughs and we’re also there for each other in the bad times too. Life can be tough sometimes and having women around you that support you and want to see the best for you is fantastic. More importantly is, they’re authentically themselves and that’s something I absolutely encourage all women to be." REBECCA NICHOLLS - GLOBAL LEARNING AND DEVELOPMENT SPECIALIST "The most inspiring woman in my world is my 97 year old grandmother Violet. She is an inspiration to me for her positivity and optimism and being brave to tackle anything. As an only grandchild I spent many hours with nana while I was growing up and the love, kindness and fun we shared together are some of my fondest memories. I moved to Sydney from England 30 years ago and missed our time together so much. When she was 91 she embraced the opportunity for us to be together again and emigrated to Australia with my parents. I now get to see her whenever I want to and I am always amazed by her positivity and optimism at starting a new life across the other side of the world in her 90s. I love you nana."
