Nutrition for Health, Beauty and HappinessGood health really is a magical thing. When our bodies are well nourished, rising in the morning is easy, our energy levels throughout the day are delightfully balanced, we feel hydrated and we rest peacefully by night. As a nutritionist, my role is to guide people in this journey to good health. Provide easy, practical, nourishing solutions to inspire and help people feel empowered by their health. So, I am incredibly excited to have teamed up with the wonderful team at JURLIQUE to do just that for you! Our partnership in beauty, health and wellness will see gorgeous delicious, nourishing and simple ideas coming right your way. We’ve created some absolutely incredible recipes, videos, and easy reads to help give your health a makeover and for you to see your skin glow like never before.JURLIQUE have such a beautiful array of natural, nourishing ingredients in their range of products, so we thought the most wonderful way to showcase these would be not only through their stunning product, but also with how you can eat them. If you can enhance the glow in your skin through food as well as within your beauty regime then really… why wouldn’t you?A little on my philosophy in nutrition…I work first and foremost on diet, because diet is not just what you eat it is truly a ‘way of life’. When our diet is in good stead, everything flows well, when our diet is out of kilt, our body doesn’t respond as well as it could and it can impact both our health and our lifestyle. Nourishing whole foods are the answer.By whole foods, I mean those that are as close as possible to how Mother Nature created them, unprocessed, unrefined, without the additives, sugars or preservatives we see all too often in food these days. Think fresh vegetables a plenty, fruit, whole grains, nuts, seeds, clean quality proteins and healthy fats. It’s as simple as that. When you learn about how wonderful these foods are and pop your creative hat on in the kitchen again, you feel and see the benefits.Recreating your health is best approached with small steps, on a frequent basis to achieve long term results. Don’t try to change everything overnight, Rome wasn’t built in a day, new habits and breaking old ones takes time too. When you use this principle and look at whole foods as a fun, creative and simple way to do it, then you are half way there. I hope you enjoy what JURLIQUE and I have prepared for you…I know we’ve had an absolute blast creating it.In good health always,JacquelineNOURISH BOWL : JURLIQUEServes 11 cup baby spinach1 cup blanched kale leaves,1/2 cup zucchini noodles or grated1/2 cup carrot noodles or grated1 small beetroot, roasted and sliced1/2 cup turmeric quinoa1/4 cup alfalfa1/2 cup cherry tomatoes, halved1 red radish, finely sliced1/4 pink grapefruit1/2 small avocado, finely sliced2 tablespoons sauerkraut1 teaspoon pepitas1/2 teaspoon sesame seedfew sprigs dillCold pressed olive oil and balsamic vinegarSea salt and black pepperPlace spinach leaves and kale leaves in the base of bowl or plate.Top with zucchini and carrot noodles, beetroot, turmeric quinoa, alfalfa, cherry tomatoes, radish, grapefruit.Arrange avocado over the top of the vegetables, followed by sauerkraut, peptias and sesame seeds and dill.Drizzle with olive oil and vinegar, season with salt and pepper and serve.

YOUR BEST SKIN… AT ANY AGE

YOUR BEST SKIN… AT ANY AGE

You can’t stop the clock but you can definitely slow down its impact on your skin.BE SUN-SAFEYou’ve heard it before, but the importance of protecting yourself from UV rays can’t be emphasised enough. The key? Being vigilant at all times, not just when you’re spending large chunks of time outdoors. “It’s estimated that up to 80 per cent of skin ageing can be attributed to photo ageing from incidental sun exposure,” says Jurlique’s Ultimate Beauty Expert, Rebecca Nicholls. And don’t just be sun smart in summer – it’s important to protect your skin year-round. “Just 20 minutes of incidental sun a day adds up,” says Rebecca. “Over a year you will see that this is equivalent to two weeks of unprotected exposure.”AVOID SUGARThose dark smudges under your eyes aren’t just from a lack of sleep. Toxic by-products produced when we process sugar (called glycation) can also cause those dark circles, as well as wrinkles and sagging. Cut down your intake by avoiding processed foods and sugary drinks. Boosting your intake of highly satiating foods, such as protein and fibre, will also help to fight cravings.BE SLEEP SMARTSkimping on sleep can cause blood vessels to dilate, leading to tell-tale puffiness and dark shadows under the eyes. The effects of sleep deprivation aren’t just skin deep – sleep allows our bodies to rest, repair, and regenerate cells – all crucial to slowing the ageing process.MAKE FRIENDS WITH OMEGA-3Studies have shown that omega-3 fatty acids protect our cells from ageing by slowing down the shortening of telomeres, the markers of biological ageing found at the end of chromosomes. To make sure your cells receive the benefits of omega-3, you could take a fish oil supplement and boost your intake of omega-3-rich foods such as salmon, sardines and walnuts.FIGHT FREE RADICALSAntioxidants help fight against free radicals, which can damage the skin and cause premature ageing. “Free radicals are everywhere,” says Rebecca Nicholls. “They occur naturally in our body and are also left behind by smoke, pollution and the sun’s radiation.”Free radicals damage skin cells through the process of oxidation – substances that help prevent this damage are called ‘anti-oxidants’. “There’s dozens, if not hundreds, of different antioxidants. Naturally occurring antioxidants can be found in many of the plant and natural ingredients that are used to formulate Jurlique products,” says Rebecca.START NOWThere’s no time like the present to slow down your skin’s ageing process. DOWN TO THE PORE – 9 FACTS YOU NEED TO KNOW

DOWN TO THE PORE – 9 FACTS YOU NEED TO KNOW

Our Ultimate Beauty Expert, Rebecca Nicholls, shares how to properly care for your pores.1. A pore is an opening on the skin which allows sweat, oil and other hormonal secretions to be transported to the surface layers of the skin.2. Genetics play a role determining pore size. Does your mother or father have large pores? Then there’s a good chance you might too.3. Lighter and fairer skins tend to have smaller, finer pores than darker skin tones or oil rich skins.4. Pores change over time. As skin matures and loses firmness pores will also appear to stretch or look more obvious.5. Dehydrated skin will also make pores look more visible as the skin stretches and emphasises pore size.6. Cleaner pores are less obvious than pores that are clogged with makeup, dirt or oil. Regular cleansing and exfoliation are the key, while a weekly treatment mask will also help.7. A blackhead is a small plug of oil, possibly combined with dead skin cells, that sits in a pore and oxidises causing the oil to discolour.8. NEVER squeeze a blackhead (no matter how tempting!). Squeezing pimples or blackheads can also damage pores which will make them more obvious in size.9. Clean skin that is regularly exfoliated is the best way to treat and prevent blackheads. Squeezing does not help and only increases the chance of a localised infection which will then turn the blackhead into a pimple and make it much more visible.AT A GLANCE: JURLIQUE’S PORE-PERFECT PRODUCTSFor fresh clean skin try Rose Moisture Plus With Antioxidant Complex Moisturising Cleanser which not only cleans the skin but also has very gentle exfoliating properties.Daily Exfoliating Cream will help to gently remove dead skin cells and reveal smooth, clear skin. For targeted areas of congestion and multiple blackheads try Blemish Cream to help rebalance and conceal or Purifying Mask at night to help address excess oil and uneven skin texture while gently exfoliating.

MEET THE MOTHERS AMONGST US!

MEET THE MOTHERS AMONGST US!

There are iconic women who transform our world all around us. This Mother’s Day we wanted to celebrate those we sit amongst. We spoke to some of the inspirational women in our Sydney office to understand how they nourish, how they balance work and home life and how their own mothers have inspired them. Anna, Marketing Director - ANZ Mother to Dayne & Mila     How do you nourish your skin? I think masks are such a wonderful way to give my skin a boost, or treat a particular issue. My favourites are Purity Specialist Treatment Mask, to deeply cleanse and smooth, and Intense Recovery Mask to revitalise.     Has the concept of 'beauty' changed for you since becoming a mother? Absolutely. Having a child, you instantly become the whole world for this tiny person and dedicate yourself fully and unconditionally to them.  Well, at least the first few years. The notion of beauty evolved for me to become more holistic, to focus on inner beauty rather than my looks. Motherhood does that to you, it puts your whole life in perspective.     What’s your morning ritual? I always start with a cleanser to wash off all the dirt and impurities. My favourite is our Nourishing Cleansing Oil, it has an amazing texture and fragrance. My skin is left feeling soft and smooth. Another must have is Jurlique’s Activating Water Essence, which is a delight to use and it makes my moisturiser work harder and last longer, it makes such a big difference to my skin.     How do you balance family life with work life? The short answer is I don’t. I just go with the flow while my kids are young and enjoy the ride. It gets super busy and exhausting at times, but it’s worth it! I had to become much more organised and make sure I plan for all weekly meals ahead, coordinate my work travel with my partner and book the babysitter months in advance.     What is something your mother always said to you? Mum used to say: “Anna, in this life you can only be successful if you believe in yourself”. A notion that helped me at different stages of my life when my self-esteem was low.      What do you wish for your children? I wish for them to be happy, loved and try to make this life better for all beings around them too. It’s probably a bit ambitious but I’m sure they can give it a go.     Aimee, Design Lead – Global Mother to Willow and now, at the time of publishing, 4-week-old Charli   Who’s your everyday icon? I have the hugest admiration for Saskia Havekes, founder of Grandiflora. We have been so fortunate to collaborate with her on some of our campaigns over the past few years. I am truly astounded and inspired by the way she has created an internationally recognized business empire, whilst remaining one of the most hard-working, gracious, kind and gentle women I have ever met – all whilst raising two daughters.     How do you nourish your skin? At the time of answering this, I am a few weeks away from meeting our second child – and I feel like I literally can’t get enough moisture into my skin – GIVE ME ALL THE OILS AND MASKS! I use Jurlique’s Skin Balancing Face Oil every day, layering it under moisturiser and also mixing it with foundation – my skin literally drinks it up! I also love our Rose Moisture Plus Moisturising Cream Mask. I love that when used overnight, your skin looks refreshed and hydrated in the morning. I am going to keep this one especially close over the upcoming months!     How has your own mother inspired you? My mum has always been my biggest supporter and cheerleader. She has brought me up to believe that I have something unique to offer the world, BUT that if I want to make a difference, it’s up to me to go out and do it. 15 years ago, she set up a business in Cape Town, South Africa, creating art out of recycled tea-bags. The business now supports more than 20 individuals from an informal settlement. It is testament to her unwavering desire to create a positive impact in the world through the talent she has been blessed with.     Has the concept of 'beauty' changed for you since becoming a mother? I feel like since having a little one, ‘beauty’ has become a way for me to reconnect to myself as ‘Aimee’ and not ‘mummy’. I feel energized and able to take on the world when I have washed hair, skin care and make up on and I am out of my tracksuit pants!     What’s you must have beauty product? Jurlique’s Skin Balancing Face Oil     How do you balance family life with work life? My husband and I regularly challenge ourselves and each other to focus on work when we’re at work but then remain present when we’re at home, but we don’t always get it right.     What do you wish for your children? That they find a sense of purpose and through that, happiness. Above all, I hope they are kind and gracious, to themselves and others. Also, I hope they always come over for weekly dinners even when their Dad and I are old and uncool!   Bertha, Visual Merchandising Manager – ANZ. Mother to Audrey and Eliza.     How do you nourish your skin? By drinking lots of water and making sure I always do a mask every week no matter how busy life gets!     How has your own mother inspired you? My mother passed away last year. She was always thinking of others, even up until the end of her life. So, I try to always put myself in other’s shoes and do what’s best by others.     Has the concept of 'beauty' changed for you since becoming a mother? I try to be a role model for my girls. I want them to know that all women are beautiful no matter what we look like on the outside. As a mother, beauty for me is not physical but how we take a moment to appreciate everything around us – nature, people and how we are all connected.       What’s your morning ritual? Apart from ushering the kids around and making ham and cheese sandwiches, I make sure that I take 10 minutes for myself. I cleanse my skin, followed by Activating Water Essence and Calendula Redness Rescue Restorative Treatment Serum. Then I use the Herbal Recovery Signature Eye Cream followed by the Skin Balancing Face Oil as a moisturiser. I make sure I do all the steps, as it’s the only time in the day I get to focus on my skin.       What’s your must have beauty product? My Jurlique Rose Silk Finishing Powder, it’s changed my life!       How do you balance family life with work life? I am very lucky to work at a company that respects and encourages work and family balance, which makes it much easier to be a full-time working mum. I make sure that I am there for most of my girl’s school performances and that I actually switch off the emails as soon as I am home…or at least not look them till the next morning on the train!     What is something your mother always said to you? “Don’t take on everything yourself – ask for help when you need it.”     What do you wish for your children? I want my girls to be happy, healthy and have a positive outlook on life. There is so much beauty all around us and I don’t think we take enough time to appreciate it.   Nicole, Brand Manager - ANZ Mother to Zoe     How do you nourish your skin? Days have been a little more hectic since becoming a mother 5 months ago, but I make sure, at the very least, that I hydrate with Activating Water Essence and Herbal Recovery Signature Moisturising Cream every morning and night. If I have an extra few minutes, I use the Herbal Recovery Signature Serum and Herbal Recovery Signature Eye Cream. I also squeeze in a Purity Specialist Treatment Mask or Intense Recovery Mask every week.     How has your own mother inspired you? Her work ethic and strength are so inspiring. She is amazing.     Has the concept of 'beauty' changed for you since becoming a mother? I think I feel more beautiful now as a mother, than I ever have. Beauty seems more tied with happiness than my physical appearance.     What’s you must have beauty product? Activating Water Essence is my holy grail!     How do you balance family life with work life? At the moment I get to enjoy all the time with my beautiful girl, Zoe, as I am on maternity leave. I will worry about the balance when I need to.     What is something your mother always said to you? “Don’t waste time worrying about things that are out of your control.”     How do you relax and reconnect with yourself at the end of a busy week?A walk around the block, a hot bath and a face mask.     What do you wish for your children? I wish Zoe a lifetime of infinite love, happiness and friendship! Strength when she needs it and to keep her beautiful little smile.   TAKE A MOMENT TO SUBSCRIBE TO THE NEWSLETTER

WHEN DID YOU FIRST TRULY SEE YOUR MUM?

WHEN DID YOU FIRST TRULY SEE YOUR MUM?

There comes a moment when we recognise not only how our mothers transform our lives but how she has lived her own. We see her as a woman, a mentor, a confidant – an everyday icon.   It doesn’t always hit like a lightning bolt. Sometimes it’s a slow appreciation that dawns as we enter adulthood. Other times, it’s in the awestruck affinity we feel for our own mothers when we become parents ourselves. When we truly begin to see our mothers as women who lived entire lives before us, and who created a world around us, we understand what it really means to be iconic. And that there’s more to say than thank you on Mother’s Day.     One day really isn’t enough.     We honour resilience We bow down to the plate-spinning juggles and the struggles – because we can see now that when she made our childhoods feel like magic, she worked hard to make it so. Even when it seemed effortless – in fact, especially then.     We admire her power to lead and inspire The trails our mothers blazed to light our way are often invisible when we’re kids. Was yours doing double shifts? Was she chipping at the glass ceiling or the role model and CEO of the home? We know she deserved to be paid double. As grown women, we see how far there is to go because we understand how far our mothers and mentors have come. That’s real inspo.      We celebrate her compassion How do we say a simple thanks for her endless capacity to nourish and nurture us? For the unrelenting strength in her tenderness? She’s imperfect and so are we and yet she loves us anyway. There’s no love like it.       Mum, we get it. We see you. And on Mother’s Day we give more than gratitude. To celebrate all she is and all she does, Jurlique has boxed up absolute bestsellers in beautiful gift sets – for every kind of everyday icon.

5 MUST-HAVES FOR A GOOD NIGHT’S SLEEP

5 MUST-HAVES FOR A GOOD NIGHT’S SLEEP

A good night’s sleep is like nectar for the soul. Eyes are brighter, footsteps are lighter and you’re ready to tackle the day. But let’s face it – when was the last time you had a truly great night’s sleep? With daily stresses and distractions, sometimes it’s easier said than done but there are a few things you can do to improve sleep quality and ensure you wake up feeling well-rested. It’s all about creating a peaceful sleeping environment, starting with a cool, dark bedroom free from screens (yep, Instagram can wait until morning) and adding a few natural sleep remedies and products to your nighttime routine. With a little help from some sleep aficionados, these are our top tips for getting a good night’s sleep. 1. WEAR BREATHABLE SLEEPWEAR There’s nothing better than a fresh pair of pyjamas and changing into them signals to the brain that it’s time to get ready for sleep. Ever wake up too hot in the night? Our body temperature rises when we sleep, so choose breathable sleepwear like these Pure Silk PJs from Australian brand Papinelle. Soft, naturally breathable and hypoallergenic, this silk sleepwear will keep you warm in winter and cool in summer – plus they’re great for sensitive skin (their simple cuts in neutral and pastel shades give a luxe twist to sleepwear, too). 2. SLEEP ON A SILK PILLOW Moving around while we sleep can cause our hair and skin to pull on the pillowcase, not to mention our carefully-applied skincare products to rub off. Silk pillowcases are much kinder on the skin and cause less friction than traditional cotton ones – go for celeb favourite Slip Silk Pillowcases, which are thick, soft and durable and are proven to absorb significantly less face cream. As an extra boost, spray your pillow with the Jurlique Calming Blend Aromatherapy Mist – a blend of grapefruit and lavender, this calming scent helps promote sleep (plus your bedroom will smell wonderful). 3. LIGHT A CALMING CANDLE Forget your iPhone screen, the only thing that should be lighting up your bedroom is a soothing candle. Dim your lights or put on a lamp with a warm glow, and light a Lumira Balinese Ylang Ylang candle. Aromatic and earthy, this candle provides instant relaxation and, thanks to fragrance being linked to memory and emotion, your mind will transition to sleep mode each time you light it.4. UNWIND WITH MAGNESIUM OIL There are so many health benefits of magnesium but when it comes to helping us rest, it’s one of our secret weapons. It works wonders with sleep, so incorporate it into your nightly routine by indulging in a self-massage using the (100% natural) Salt Lab Magnesium Oil Spray. Simply spritz 3-6 sprays onto your skin (your stomach is a good spot) and massage it in gently. 5. EMBRACE AROMATHERAPY The Benefits Of Aromatherapy are endless, and essential oils are great products to use as a natural sleep aid. Add a few drops of Jurlique Comforting Blend Essential Oil to your bath or a vaporiser before bed – containing natural essential oils including Orange, Patchouli and Ylang Ylang, this oil promotes peace and wellbeing. For a good night’s sleep every night, set up a peaceful sleeping environment with the help of natural remedies and products. Shop our essential oils and sprays here.

8 WAYS TO LIVE MORE SUSTAINABLY

8 WAYS TO LIVE MORE SUSTAINABLY

It’s no secret that we’re in the middle of a climate crisis but with the likes of Greta Thunberg and other climate activists advocating more sustainable living, our collective eco-consciousness is also greater than ever. And living a more sustainable life is easier than you think – with just a little effort and a few small changes, you can create an eco-friendly home and help do your bit for the environment. Here are eight simple ways to go green at home.   1. CONSERVE ENERGY This is an easy one to do, and all it requires is a change in habit. Our top energy conservation tips include turning off lights and appliances whenever you’re not using them, hanging your clothes to dry rather than using a tumble dryer, and reducing your use of air conditioning.   2. EAT LOCAL Importing food may offer more variety but it also means greater air travel and therefore, greater air pollution. Eat locally-sourced produce when you can – it hasn’t travelled as far, plus it supports local farmers and producers.     3. BE WATER-WISE Droughts happen all over the world and are especially frequent in hotter climates. Save water by installing water-efficient showerheads, taking shorter showers and waiting until you have a full load of washing before using the washing machine. If you have plants or a garden, collect rainwater to water them, rather than using a tap.   4. SAY NO TO SINGLE-USE PLASTIC According to WWF, the average Australian uses 130kg of plastic a year – and up to 130,000 tonnes of plastic makes its way into our waterways and oceans. Ditch disposable and single-use plastics such as straws, cutlery, bags and bottles and swap them for reusable alternatives. Once you get in the habit, you’ll soon be reducing your plastic use in no time.     5. USE REUSABLE CLOTHS We’re all guilty of using paper towels and cotton pads in the home but after one use, they go straight in the bin. Switch to reusable household cloths instead and use reusable pads or muslin cloths to remove your make up, washing them whenever you need to.   6. RECYCLE Paper, glass and metal can all be recycled so rather than sending your used goods straight to your waste bin, put them in the recycling instead (if you’re unsure and want to know what packaging is recyclable, check with your local council). Most Jurlique packaging is recyclable and we’ve partnered with TerraCycle to make it easy - when your product is finished, simply drop it off at a participating boutique, or send it for free via Australia Post. Find out more here.   7. USE ESSENTIAL OILS TO CLEAN Typically, cleaning products can be toxic and harmful to the environment. Not only are essential oils great for diffusing and creating a peaceful atmosphere at home but they’re a great chemical-free alternative for cleaning, too. Lavender Oil can be used to freshen up clothes and bed linen, too. Rather than using a scented fabric softener, add a teaspoon to the wash for fresh, naturally scented fabrics.   8. GROW YOUR OWN HERBS Herbs are easy to grow (and maintain) at home, even if you don’t have a garden. Start off with planting pre-potted herbs for ease and make sure you keep them somewhere that has drainage (if not, they’ll drown), like a window box with a reservoir at the bottom. Water them every day and keep them well trimmed. If you’re new to growing, woody herbs like thyme, rosemary and sage are more resilient than others so generally last longer and survive hot and cold locations well.     TAKE A MOMENT TO SUBSCRIBE TO THE NEWSLETTER
