HOW TO GET RID OF BACNE
As the weather warms up and we swap our turtlenecks and sweatshirts for flowy dresses and linen cami tops, the last thing you want to do is shy away from baring your back and shoulders when spring and summer approaches. Bacne can be challenging to deal with, but not impossible to tackle. Keep reading to find out how to get rid of bacne. What is Bacne?Bacne is short for ‘back acne’. While an uncomfortable and pesky concern to those suffering, it’s actually very common – similar to the acne experienced on the face, bacne is typically characterised as pimples, black heads and scarring on the back and shoulders. What causes Bacne?Bacne can be caused by an array of things. Sebaceous glands cover the vast majority of our bodies, mostly around areas that have hair follicles. These sebaceous glands secrete an oil like substance called sebum. Sebum naturally protects your skin from moisture loss, but when there is an excess of sebum production coupled with grime and dead skin cells, that’s when your skin starts to break out.How to get rid of Bacne1. Lather upWhen you jump into the shower don’t forgot to pay attention to your back, especially post-work out! The combination of sweat, dirt, oil and bacteria is the perfect environment for bacne. Reach for a body wash that has some active ingredients like salicylic acid. Salicylic acid works by “unplugging” the pores of dead skin cells while simultaneously calming down any breakouts.2. ExfoliateFollowing the theme of banishing dead skin cells, exfoliating is key to tackling bacne. The skin on our backs, shoulders and chest are a lot more tough compared to the delicate skin on our face. So, opting for a granular exfoliant is recommended. Our Smoothing Body Exfoliating Gel is a perfectly balanced blend of natural exfoliators which help to gently polish away dead surface skin cells, revealing fresher, smoother skin. A plus is that it also includes a unique micellar cleansing blend made from plant-based extracts that’ll further remove surface impurities while nurturing the skin. We recommend using the exfoliator in the shower on clean skin, before washing with soap orshower gel.3. Wash your hair firstYou most likely haven’t thought about it, but your hair conditioner could be the cause of your bacne flare ups. Most hair conditioners are filled with silicones and oils that are comedogenic (pore clogging). You wouldn’t wash your body with hair conditioner, but unintentionally that’s what’s happening when you rinse out your hair and the excess product goes down your back. Try washing your hair before you cleanse your body. If you shower first and wash your hair after, you’d be undoing the pore de-gunking work of your body wash and exfoliator.4. Wear loose-fitting clothingWhen you wear tight clothes, what you’re doing is creating a humid environment for your back. In other words, a breeding ground for bacteria. Sweat, mixed in with dirt and dead skin cells is a no-go if you want to get rid of bacne. If you’re a gym-fanatic, opt for fabrics like bamboo which is light, breathable and also absorbs moisture while regulating your body temperature. Another tip is to steer clear from laundry detergents with artificial fragrances and fabric softeners with fillers. Go for skin and Earth friendly laundry products to minimise exacerbating your bacne.5. Use natural body productsAvoid using products that could potentially further irritate your skin. Natural body products contain skin-loving, nourishing ingredients that nurture the health of your skin and are a way to help get rid of bacne naturally. Your skin is your body’s largest organ, and it acts as a protective barrier, so treat it with care. Our Calendula Cream is free from harsh chemicals and rich in pure organic botanicals grown on our farm in South Australia. Gently press into any inflamed skin you have on your back. Packed with potent plant-based antioxidants, your skin will be left feeling comforted and protected.Tip: Avoid popping or picking your bacne, as this could lead to more breakouts and scarring.Rich in pure organic botanicals, and free from harsh chemicals, our luxurious body care range naturally replenishes your skin.

Whether your concern is fine lines, puffiness or dark circles, the skin around the eyes is often one of the first places to show signs of tiredness or ageing. Because your undereye skin is particularly thin and delicate, it pays to apply products that have been formulated specifically for this area.Unlike choosing a new cleanser or moisturiser, considering our skin ‘type’ – for example oily, combination etc. – isn’t so relevant when it comes to picking out products for use around the eyes. This is because as we age, the skin around the eyes naturally becomes much drier than the skin elsewhere on the face. Therefore, it’s more about personal preference and desired results. With creams, gels and serums to choose from, it can be tricky to know where to begin in your quest for finding the right product. You might be wondering how to cure tired eyes, what the best eye cream for wrinkles is and even whether or not eye serums really work…With lots to consider, find our simple guide to help you navigate the various textures on offer and choose the right eye care product to best suit your needs.Eye CreamEye creams are typically richer in texture and probably the closest in consistency to your daily face moisturiser. If this is your first foray into the world of eye care, an eye cream can be a great, no-nonsense place to start. It can be particularly beneficial to use an eye cream at night, allowing the product to deeply absorb into the skin while you catch up on your beauty sleep. Harnessing the power of potent botanical ingredients, our Herbal Recovery Signature Eye Cream is a nourishing choice. This cream is designed to visibly improve the appearance of the skin around the eyes and minimise wrinkles, and our scientific research has shown that our Yarrow extract in the formula helps protect your skin from collagen breakdown*.Eye GelYou may have already guessed that eye gels have a lighter consistency than creams. Although gel formulas are suitable for use in both the morning and evening, their cooling, energising properties make them a soothing choice for waking up tired peepers first thing. If puffiness is your main concern, our Herbal Recovery Signature Eye Gel could be just the ticket. Charged with farm-grown botanicals and antioxidants to deliver intense moisture, it is ideal for brightening eyes. An ultra-light formula, it will leave the eye area visibly refreshed after a late night whilst also targeting fine lines and other signs of ageing.Eye SerumSo, what does eye serum do? Perhaps the most innovative of the three, eye serums are designed to penetrate deeper into the skin than creams and gels for faster, treatment-focused results. Lovely and light in texture, serums are easily absorbed by the skin, making them perfect for use under makeup. If you’re looking for a gentle yet effective approach, our brand-new Herbal Recovery Signature Eye Serum offers just that. Super silky to apply, it improves the skin’s ability to hold onto all-important moisture, while filling in fine lines as they appear. The addition of yarrow extract works to protect your skin from collagen breakdown.Shop all eye care at Jurlique.*Based on a study of the expressions of collagenase (MMP1) in skin cells treated with Bio-Intrinsic Yarrow against a control vehicle over a period of 24 hours. Read moreWHEN SHOULD I START USING ANTI-AGEING SKIN CARE PRODUCTS?
It’s a question that seems to confuse a lot of us: when should you start using anti-ageing products? In your early 20s, before any visible signs of ageing? At 30 or 40? Are there different anti-ageing products you should be using at different life stages? And what are the best anti-ageing treatments? While at Jurlique we believe that every age is beautiful, we also believe in the power that looking after and nourishing your skin can bring. So, we’re here to get rid of the confusion. Read on to find out when and how to start using anti-ageing skin care. When should I start using anti-ageing skin care?In short, it’s never too early. Like with most things, our best anti-ageing tip is that prevention is better than cure, so the earlier you start incorporating targeted anti-ageing skin care into your ritual, the better. Your early 20s is the best time to start, as it will slow down those visible signs of ageing from appearing. But don’t worry if you’re past your early 20s and have yet to use an anti-ageing product – you can still reap the benefits and notice the difference at every age.Which product should I start with? For first signs of ageing: If you're looking to slowly incorporate anti-ageing skin care into your daily ritual, start with the Herbal Recovery Signature Serum and Herbal Recovery Signature Moisturising Lotion or Herbal Recovery Signature Moisturising Cream. With Powerful botanicals and natural-based antioxidants, these products will help to smooth the appearance of lines and wrinkles. For visible signs of ageing: If your skin needs deeper hydration and repair, pair the Nutri-Define Supreme Rejuvenating Serum with the Nutri-Define Supreme Restorative Light Cream, and apply the Nutri-Define Supreme Eye Contour Balm to help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. For advanced signs of ageing: If you’re already using a serum, night cream and eye cream, try incorporating the Nutri-Define Supreme Cleansing Foam and switching the Light Cream for the Nutri-Define Supreme Restorative Rich Cream to deliver intense hydration.Choose natural anti-ageing ingredientsIf you’ve been a long-time user of Jurlique, you’ll know we value the potent botanicals grown on our biodynamic* farm in South Australia and believe that nature is our greatest source of skin-loving ingredients. Our Nutri-Define range includes natural ingredients such as an extract from the Spilanthes flower, which has been shown to boost the production of Collagen VII and Collagen I, two essential anti-ageing proteins, by up to 46%**. These active ingredients are encapsulated in Biosome6, a unique technology that optimises, stabilises and transports them to the deeper layers of the skin.Age with confidenceWe believe that signs of ageing are not something we should be ashamed or try to hide – and that our imperfections are what make us who we are. Rather, anti-ageing skin care is here to help us celebrate our skin and keep it healthy throughout the years.Explore our Nutri-Define range now, or visit our blog for more skin care tips.*Certified biodynamic by the National Association for Sustainable Agriculture, Australia. Just when we got our heads around glass skin, there’s a new need-to-know beauty term to get on board with: dolphin skin. The term was coined by celebrity makeup artist Mary Phillips who’s been responsible for Kendall Jenner and JLO’s looks – and who’s also a fan of our Rosewater Balancing Mist. The dolphin skin trend has since taken Instagram by storm – and it’s a Christmas makeup look we’ll be adopting at Jurlique HQ.Hold on…what does dolphin skin mean? Essentially, this look is about skin that’s slippery smooth, hyper-glowing, plump and hydrated…like you’ve just stepped out of crystal clear waters and are gleaming and glistening (more Bond girl than reality, then, but still a look you can achieve with the right skin care ritual and makeup products). Read on for our step by step guide to achieving dolphin skin this festive season.Step 1: ExfoliateThis is a trend that works best on freshly exfoliated skin. Every day, dead skin cells, dirt and oil build up on the surface of your skin, which can leave it feeling and looking dull and dry. A gentle exfoliator removes this build-up, revealing newer, fresher, smoother and healthier-looking skin. Exfoliating also unclogs pores. Our pores can get clogged from a build-up of sebum (naturally occurring oil in our skin), as well as dirt and grime from pollution, sweat and general everyday life – which can lead to the appearance of spots (not the slippery smooth skin we’re after, then…).Use our Daily Exfoliating Cream, our mild, creamy and non-granular face scrub that can be used on all skin types (it’s even gentle enough for sensitive skin).Step 2: HydrateEvery good skin care ritual is heavy on the hydration – and no dolphin skin makeup look would be complete without a hydrated base. After exfoliating, spray a few spritzes of your favourite face mist over your skin and allow it to sink in before applying a couple of drops of Activating Water Essence. This super hydrating face essence provides long-lasting hydration to the skin and also preps the skin, helping the products you apply afterwards (namely, your serum and moisturiser) to penetrate into the layers of your skin.Step 3: MoisturiseApply the right serum for your skin type and lock in all that moisture and benefits of the skin care products you’ve used so far in your ritual, with a hydrating moisturiser. For the ultimate in dolphin skin, use the Moisture Plus Rare Rose Lotion or Moisture Plus Rare Rose Gel Cream – both contain the extract of our exclusive Jurlique Rose, and deliver 24-hour hydration to the skin.*Step 4: Add a Face OilA couple of drops of a high-performance oil can hydrate, smooth and soften your skin (hello fewer lines and wrinkles), and make it more resilient – not to mention give you an enviable glow. Face oils are nourishing and moisturising, supplementing the oil your skin already produces. They’re also hydrophobic, meaning they help to improve the skin’s natural barrier to seal in moisture (all excellent qualities for that coveted dolphin skin look). We recommend mixing a couple of drops of Herbal Recovery Antioxidant Face Oil into your moisturiser. This blend is full of antioxidant-rich botanical oils (Grapeseed, Avocado and Rose Hip) that revitalise the complexion, and help minimise first signs of ageing and protect against environmental aggressors.Step 5: Apply your makeupYour skin should be glowing already but to take your festive dolphin skin look up a notch it’s time to apply your makeup. Start with a light, luminous coverage that has hydrating properties, add a cream blush and then dab a cream or balm based highlighter to the bridge and tip of your nose, cheekbones, temples and brow bones (note: powders won’t give you the same gleam as cream-based products). For more Christmas inspiration, discover our Christmas Catalogue.*Based on a corneometer study of 21 participants using Moisture Plus Rare Rose Lotion and Moisture Plus Rare Rose Gel Cream, after 24h

Gels, cream, serums, lotions…there’s a whole host of skin care products out there and unless you’re a fan of the 12-step routine, adding another product to your ritual can sometimes feel like another one too many. But there’s one skin care product that’s worthy of taking up prime real estate on your bathroom shelf: the eye serum. Chances are you’ve heard of face serums and already use one or two on rotation to target your skin concerns. But are you using a specific serum for the under-eye area? The skin around our eyes is thinner and more fragile than the skin on the rest of our face so it needs care, attention and specially formulated products. If you’re struggling with under eye bags, puffy eyes or wrinkles and you feel as though you need an extra boost to this area, an eye serum is the perfect addition to your skin care ritual. What is an eye serum?Like a face serum, the difference between eye serum and eye cream lies in the texture and formula. Eye serums are lighter in texture to an eye cream or gel and are highly concentrated, delivering intense hydration to help repair the skin around the eyes. An eye cream, however, seals in moisture and all the benefits of the products used before it, as well as protects the skin from environmental aggressors. And like face serums are applied before your moisturiser, eye serums are applied before your eye cream as they can penetrate deeper into the skin.Red bottle of Jurlique Herbal Recovery Signature Eye Serum next to white necklaceBenefits of using an eye serumDo eye serums really work? In a word, yes. An eye serum is so much more than an extra step. Depending on how the product is formulated, eye serums can: Hydrate and firm the skin around the eyes Minimise the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines Reduce puffiness and dark circles around the eyes Restore and a radiant and youthful appearance. Of course, at Jurlique we believe that products formulated with quality, natural ingredients deliver the best results to the skin – and the same goes for eye serums. Our Herbal Recovery Signature Eye Serum is rich in farm grown, age-defying botanicals and natural antioxidants such as Viola Tricolor extract, Yarrow extract and Japanese Cedar Bud extract, which help to re-energise and protect the eye area. Signs of fatigue are minimised, skin feels firmer and more energised, and looks more even in tone. Don’t just take our word for it – 96% of users who tried Herbal Recovery Signature Eye Serum for 56 days said their skin around the eye area felt replenished and hydrated*.How to use an eye serumEvery good skin care ritual starts with cleansing the skin before applying a hydrating mist and face essence, such as Activating Water Essence. Apply your face serum as usual, then apply one pump of Herbal Recovery Signature Eye Serum to the fingertips and gently dab it around the eyes, morning and night. The eye serum can be used on its own but for the best results, apply a nourishing eye gel or cream on top, such as Herbal Recovery Signature Eye Cream. The thicker layer of the eye cream will help seal in moisture and protect the skin against daily aggressors.Transform your skin with Herbal Recovery Signature Eye Serum or shop all eye care at Jurlique. Read more5 REASONS TO USE A BODY EXFOLIATOR
Face scrubs make up an important part of a lot of people’s skin care rituals, thanks to their ability to revitalise the skin, restore your natural glow and help fight signs of ageing. But is a body exfoliator also part of your routine? Just like face scrubs, a good body scrub can help you achieve smooth, even skin and reveal your best skin yet (perfect for summer when you’re showing a little more skin – and winter, when your body is probably in need of a bit more TLC). Read on for everything you need to know about exfoliation and how to choose the best body scrub for glowing skin (if you’re curious about face exfoliators, read our go-to guide here). 5 benefits of body exfoliation 1. Reveals radiant skin Just like we have dead surface skin cells on our face, the same goes for our body. Exfoliation thoroughly clears away those dead surface skin cells, revealing that refreshed, radiant and smooth skin underneath. 2. Smooths bumpy skin Ever notice your skin feeling a bit bumpy? Exfoliating regularly helps smooth bumpy skin and clean out impurities – as well as help reduce the appearance of dark spots. 3. Boosts circulation The best way to exfoliate your body is by using a circular action and applying light pressure. This can help to boost circulation as you increase the blood flow to the skin’s surface. This also promotes skin cell regeneration. 4. Helps hydrate skin When dead surface skin cells are left to build up, it can cause your skin to become dry, and your body lotions and creams will have to work harder to penetrate the layers of the skin they’re trying to reach. By exfoliating and sloughing those dead surface skin cells away, your body care has a better chance of absorbing into the skin fully. 5. Relaxes the body and mind Our skin is our body’s largest organ, so it should be given as much care and attention as we give to our internal health. Using a body scrub in the shower means you’ll be giving your body a gentle massage and is a great excuse for some quality ‘me time’ (not that we think you ever need an excuse…). How to use a body scrub It’s best to leave your skin to soften in a lukewarm shower for a few minutes before applying your scrub. Gently massage the scrub into your skin in circular motions (be careful not to scrub too hard as this could irritate the skin) and focus on areas where your skin is driest. Rinse thoroughly and follow with a hydrating lotion or oil such as our Softening Body Lotion Rose or Rose Body Oil. How many times should you exfoliate your body? Exfoliating frequency depends on your skin type. Those with sensitive and dry skin will benefit from using a body scrub once a week, while those with oilier skin might benefit from exfoliating three times a week. Start off using one once a week and building up your frequency over time, if you wish. How to choose a body scrub For the best results, choose a natural body scrub made with ingredients that will gently remove dead surface skin cells without irritating the skin. Our Smoothing Body Exfoliating Gel contains Walnut Shell powder to gently but thoroughly lift away dead surface skin cells and impurities, as well as hydrating Rosa gallica flower extract and herbal antioxidants to leave the skin feeling cleansed, soft, smooth and more radiant. Body exfoliation is an essential step to achieve smooth, glowing skin. Explore our range of Body products now, or visit our blog for more skin care and body care tips.
Read moreGEL VS CREAM VS LOTION: THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN MOISTURISER TEXTURES
We all know that a good moisturiser plays a vital role in every skin care ritual. They seal in hydration, improve the skin’s protective barrier and lock in the benefits of the products you’ve used before it. But not all moisturisers are the same. Between gels, creams and lotions, knowing which types of moisturiser are right for your lifestyle, and best suited to you and your skin concerns, can be difficult. Here’s our ultimate guide to the different textures and how to pick the right moisturiser for you. Cream This is the one we probably all recognise – and use – the most. Moisturising creams tend to be thick and deliver intense hydration to the skin. They work by forming a protective moisture barrier that shields your skin from environmental aggressors and moisture loss, giving it time to recover and replenish itself. Most creams are best suited to dry skin, or skin that needs some extra TLC if it’s been exposed to extreme environmental conditions such as heat and snow. Our Moisture Plus Rare Rose Cream releases moisture over 24 hours via the micro-encapsulated Jurlique Rose extract, and contains Cupuacu Butter to restore moisture in drier skins. Lotions Moisturising lotions are lighter than creams but tend to be richer and heavier than gels, making them best suited to those with dry or combination skin types, or people living in dry, cool climates. Lotions sink into the skin quickly without leaving a film, making them an ideal option for daytime wear under makeup. If you have sensitive skin, look for a lotion that’s infused with botanical extract that can soothe and comfort your skin, like our Moisture Plus Rare Rose Lotion, in addition to protecting it from environmental aggressors. Gels Gel moisturisers have a lightweight formula without compromising on performance. They offer oil-free hydration that works well for combination or oily skin types, or for other skin types during warmer months and humid weather. Gels can also help rebalance skin moisture levels and leave skin looking fresh, supple and dewy. Our Moisture Plus Rare Rose Gel Cream has a super-light texture that doesn’t overload the skin and contains plant resin Mastic Gum to prevent oiliness. Find the right moisturiser for your skin type and concern online at Jurlique. For personalised advice, head to your nearest Jurlique store or book a complimentary virtual skin care consultation with one of our Beauty Experts. FAQs Do you need both lotion and cream? It depends on your skin and the season. A lotion moisturiser has a lighter texture that absorbs quickly, ideal for daytime use or warmer climates. A cream moisturiser is richer, perfect for nighttime or cooler months when skin needs extra nourishment. Using both can keep your complexion balanced throughout the year. Explore our moisturisers to find your preferred texture. Which goes first, lotion or cream? When layering, apply lotion first. Its fluid texture sinks in easily, allowing your cream to seal in hydration. This approach helps replenish drier areas while keeping oilier zones fresh and comfortable. Is lotion considered a cream? Not quite. The cream or lotion distinction lies in consistency and composition. Lotions contain more water, creating a lightweight finish that suits most skin types. Creams have a higher oil content, forming a soft protective layer that helps lock in moisture. Which is better, gel or lotion? That depends on what your skin craves. A gel vs lotion comparison comes down to texture and feel. Gels are cooling and weightless—perfect for combination or oil-prone skin. Lotions are silky yet hydrating, suited to those seeking a little more moisture. Explore our face collection to find what feels right for you. Which one is better, gel or cream? In the gel vs cream question, it’s all about balance. Gels refresh and absorb quickly, leaving skin smooth and shine-free. Creams are rich and condition, ideal for drier or more mature skin that needs replenishment. Do gels or creams work better? Both deliver results—it’s simply about texture preference. Gels quench and cool; creams comfort and soften. You might find your skin benefits from alternating textures as the climate or your needs change. Is body cream the same as lotion? There’s a subtle lotion moisturiser difference when used on the body. Body creams are denser and nourishing, while body lotions are lightweight and absorb in seconds. Both support softer, smoother skin. Discover more in our body collection. What is lotion? A lotion is a fluid moisturiser formulated with a higher water content than creams. It delivers hydration without heaviness, leaving skin feeling refreshed and comfortable. To learn more about what works best for you, connect with our team via contact.

We all know how important it is to protect our skin from the sun. But what about the role of after-sun care? It gets far less attention – but it’s essential to healthy skin. There’s no doubt spending time in the sun can be great for your wellbeing. But if that little bit of sun becomes too much, a whole slew of skin problems can result – from wrinkles and premature skin ageing, to hyperpigmentation. And while using a broad-spectrum sunscreen is vital, we shouldn’t rely on sunscreen alone to give our skin all the protection and care it needs from the sun, said Jurlique’s Ultimate Beauty Expert, Rebecca Nicholls.“Sunscreen works by filtering UV radiation with a barrier that absorbs and/or reflects the UV rays away from the skin,” she explained. “The higher the SPF and PA ratings, the smaller the amount of UV radiation getting through.“But no sunscreen can provide 100% protection from UV radiation. And what does get through accumulates, and may lead to sunburn if you stay out in the direct sun for too long.”What’s more, you don’t necessarily have to be sunburnt to suffer long-term damage. “Tanning is your skin cells in trauma. Even a light tan is a sign you’ve been exposed to too much sun.”This is why Jurlique decided to include an after-sun product in its new Sun Specialist skin care range, Rebecca explained.“Post-sun treatment is essential in helping to prevent today’s sun exposure from becoming tomorrow’s visible damage,” she said. “Our After Sun Replenishing Moisturising Lotion is designed to help comfort the skin and replenish moisture loss due to excess sun exposure.”HOW TO GIVE YOUR SKIN THE AFTER-SUN CARE IT NEEDSTake a cool shower or bath. This will help soothe your skin and prepare it for Step two.Apply a nourishing and comforting after-sun lotion. “After Sun Replenishing Moisturising Lotion to help keep your skin moist and supple, ” Rebecca said. “Its natural ingredients will also help protect your skin, and soothe the effects of overexposure to the sun.”Give your skin time to recover. Avoid using harsh or irritating cleansers or treatments for at least the next few days. And if you can, delay waxing or shaving until your skin has healed.Protect your skin from further sun exposure. It’s never a good idea to expose already damaged skin to more sun.
