How to Reduce Fine Lines and Wrinkles

With expert insights from Katie Morris, Jurlique Retail & Spa Educator · 15+ years as a Jurlique Beauty Therapist

Fine lines at the corners of your eyes, a crease on the forehead that lingers a little longer than it used to. They're a natural part of how skin changes, and while no cream can turn back time, a few consistent habits can soften their look.

Daily sun protection, steady hydration, gentle cleansing and a considered skincare ritual make the biggest difference to wrinkle reduction. Here's how to put them to work across your face, eyes, mouth and forehead, and when an in-clinic wrinkle treatment might be worth a conversation.

What causes fine lines and wrinkles?

Skin ages in two ways. The first is time: collagen and elastin, the proteins that keep skin firm and springy, gradually decline, natural oil production slows and skin renews itself more slowly. The second is everything skin meets day to day.

The sun is the biggest of these. UV exposure is one of the main contributors to visible skin ageing, and with Australia recording one of the highest rates of skin cancer in the world, daily protection matters more here than almost anywhere. Years of smiling, squinting and frowning etch the first lines around the eyes, mouth and forehead. And when skin is dehydrated, it can't stay plump enough to smooth them out, so lines look deeper than they are.

Fine lines are the shallow creases you notice first. Wrinkles are the deeper folds that stay put even when your face is relaxed.

How to reduce fine lines and wrinkles on your face

Cleanse without stripping

Skin that feels tight and squeaky after washing is a sign your cleanser is doing too much. A soft, botanical cleanser from our cleansers range, with lukewarm water, keeps skin comfortable so lines don't look more pronounced.

Treat with a serum

Serums carry a higher concentration of active ingredients than moisturisers alone, so they earn their place straight after cleansing.

Moisturise, then seal with oil

A rich formula from our moisturisers range helps replenish skin as it naturally produces less oil with age. If your skin wants more, press a few drops from our face oils range over the top, especially at night.

Protect, every morning

Cancer Council Australia recommends sunscreen every day the UV Index is 3 or above, which covers most of the year across most of the country. Make a broad-spectrum, SPF 50+ the last step of your morning ritual, rain or shine.

Mask two to three times a week

A rich cream mask gives skin a deeper surge of hydration between your daily steps.

Ingredients that help reduce the look of wrinkles

Hyaluronic acid and glycerin draw water into the skin, so it looks plumper and lines appear softer. Antioxidants such as vitamins C and E help skin defend itself against environmental aggressors like pollution.

Vitamin A derivatives, or retinoids, are among the most researched ingredients for smoother-looking skin, though they can cause irritation, so introduce them slowly and avoid them during pregnancy. Plant oils, rich in fatty acids, soften skin and help it hold on to moisture, while peptides help support a firmer, smoother look.

How to reduce fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes

The skin around your eyes is thinner than the rest of your face, so it's often where lines appear first. Give it its own eye formula, tapped on gently with your ring

finger rather than rubbed in. And count your sunglasses as skincare: less squinting in bright light means less creasing over time.

How to soften wrinkles around the mouth

Smile lines, and the folds that run from nose to mouth, deepen as skin loses firmness and moisture. You can't erase them at home, but you can soften their look. Keep the area well hydrated, and when you apply your face oil, massage it upwards and outwards.

How to soften forehead lines

Forehead lines are mostly expression lines, the result of years of raised brows and furrowed concentration. Daily SPF, rich hydration and a regular cream mask help them look smoother. For deeper lines, a dermatologist can talk you through in-clinic options.

And whatever else you're noticing, see your GP or a dermatologist about any spot or mole that changes in size, shape or colour.

How to reduce wrinkles and fine lines naturally

If you'd rather reduce skin wrinkles naturally, some of what helps most happens away from the bathroom cabinet. Good sleep, plenty of water, a diet rich in fruit, vegetables and healthy fats, and cutting back on alcohol and cigarettes all show up in your skin.

Plant oils and extracts can nourish and soften skin, and many have antioxidant properties that help it defend against environmental aggressors. We've been growing ours on our farm in the Adelaide Hills since 1985, and pairing them with clinical testing so you know what they do.

Building your ritual for fine lines and wrinkles

Our signs of ageing collection puts these principles into practice, pairing farm-grown botanicals with clinically tested formulas.

For your treatment step, Nutri-Define Supreme Rejuvenating Serum is powered by Spilanthes grown on our Adelaide Hills farm, and is clinically proven to significantly reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles¹. "What I love about this serum is how it works holistically to support the skin," says Jurlique in-house expert Katie Morris. "It helps to hydrate and enhance natural radiance."

Nutri-Define Supreme Restorative Rich Cream. A nourishing moisturiser for mature skin that needs extra hydration and comfort.

"As skin matures, maintaining both hydration and firmness becomes increasingly important," says Morris. "A rich moisturiser with botanical actives like this helps to nourish the skin while achieving a smoother and more redefined appearance."

To seal it all in, Purely Age-Defying Firming Face Oil blends nine plant oils with our farm-grown Black Elderflower, Silver Birch Leaf and Licorice Root. After 28 days, skin smoothness improved by 26%² and firmness by 18%³. "In professional treatments, our facial oils are used to nourish and support the skin barrier," says Morris. "A silky botanical oil like this helps skin smoothness while enhancing radiance and vitality."

Around the eyes, Nutri-Define Supreme Eye Contour Balm is a rich balm clinically proven to significantly firm the eye area after 56 days⁴.

And two to three times a week, treat skin to Nutri-Define Cream Mask. Tara Fruit and Red Algae extracts give an instantly lifted, firmer look⁵, while the formula helps smooth fine lines and wrinkles⁶, with naturally derived hyaluronic acid to help maintain moisture.

Frequently asked questions

What's the secret to reducing wrinkles?

Consistency, more than any single product. Daily SPF, steady hydration and a ritual you keep up morning and night will do more over time than anything used once in a while.

What tightens skin immediately?

Some formulas give an instant lifting effect on the skin's surface. Nutri-Define Cream Mask, for example, leaves skin looking lifted and firmer 30 minutes after a single application⁵.

What vitamin gets rid of wrinkles?

None on its own. Vitamin A derivatives are among the most researched ingredients for smoother-looking skin, and vitamin E has antioxidant properties

that help protect skin from environmental aggressors. Our Purely Age-Defying Firming Face Oil is enriched with both Vitamin. If you’re pregnant or breastfeeding, check with your doctor before using products containing vitamin A.

Does anything actually help fine lines and wrinkles?

Yes, within limits. Clinically tested formulas can soften their appearance, but results build gradually, so give anything new at least four weeks of regular use.

How do you eliminate forehead lines?

At home, you can soften them rather than eliminate them. For deeper lines, a dermatologist can advise on in-clinic wrinkle treatment.

Are forehead wrinkles permanent?

Fine forehead lines can look much softer with good care. Deeper wrinkles that stay visible when your face is relaxed tend to last, but a consistent ritual can still help make them less noticeable.
